The study aims to characterize the vaginal microbiome of pregnant women and non-pregnant women of reproductive age in rural Bangladesh to support the development of a future live biotherapeutic product intervention that promotes reproductive health among women, including preventing bacterial vaginosis and sexually transmitted infections and improving pregnancy outcomes. 200 pregnant women, 170 non-pregnant women, and 50 husbands in northwestern Bangladesh will be enrolled and visited regularly to collect vaginal biospecimens and penile specimens for processing, analysis, and storage, including 16S rRNA and metagenomics sequencing, bioinformatics processing, and epidemiologic analyses.
